State of Black Women at Google

Google’s State of Black Women (SOBW) is a yearly celebration of Black Women in Leadership. Where SOBW Leaders, +1s & Googlers come to honor Black Women by provoking conversation, facilitating connection and celebrating community.

Being a Plus One usually means you are a privileged tag along, but at SOBW it means welcome to an ever growing and empowering platform of Black Women Leaders.

Taking advantage of the fact that this select group of guests was going to be in New Orleans for the Essence Festival of Culture, we decided to kick-off the festivities with a unique brunch experience. We highlighted Google Pixel’s Real Tone photography feature by displaying Deun Ivory’s Black Women are Worthy exhibit, an expression of self-reflection, self-celebration and self-love that invited attendees to insert themselves in the narrative.

Guest then had the oportunity of being photographed in beautiful floral vignettes, take in the delicious local cuisine, enjoy keynote speakers and music, while building meaningful connections and a sense of belonging.

We worked hand-in-hand with black, local and women-owned vendors to bring the experience to life, while celebrating New Orleans food, culture and music, together with the State of Black Women.
